(Loveland Library Update 4/6/2020 - 4:06pm

Closures and stay-home orders will not block access to the broad range of services offered to Loveland residents by the Loveland Public Library during the season of COVID-19.

Zoom-facilitated book clubs, online library cards, social media connections and virtual story times for children are examples of ways customers can plug into library services, staying safe and healthy at home while the building is closed at least through April 20.

“We know that our patrons miss having opportunities to browse bookshelves, use computers, attend special events and mix with the library’s staff and other customers,” Library Director Diane Lapierre said. “However, we have a talented and creative group that has found other ways to keep people informed, inspired and connected during this very difficult time.”

Here are examples:

  • The      library’s website, www.lovelandpubliclibrary.org,      is a great starting point to learn about service updates, resources,      downloadable offerings and virtual programs.
  • Users      can click on “Get a Library Card Online”      on our homepage, and within 24 hours receive digital access to e-books,      audiobooks, magazines and newspapers, movies, music and materials for home      schooling.
  • Follow      links to social media pages at Facebook, Twitter,      Instagram, NextDoor and YouTube for fresh and ever-changing opportunities      to connect to services.
  • Teens      have special social media connections that      offer daily challenges, book recommendations, activities, quizzes and      other activities, with links easily found on the website.
  • LPL’s      children’s staff has been filming Storytimes      and science programming from their homes. Online, through social media and      the website, find the familiar faces of Kris and Claudeth for English and      Spanish storytimes, Cindi for science programs and Ms. Beth delivering      digital bedtime stories. Find the lineup at www.lovelandpubliclibrary.org/virtual-storytimes-science-and-more
  • Adults      can participate in the library’s Virtual Book      Club, hosted on Zoom, the easy-to-use video conferencing tool that has      become a popular meeting ground during the pandemic. First, view the handy Zoom tutorial HERE.

Join the group at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 9 for a discussion of Jon Krakaur’s gripping nonfiction account of a fatal Mt. Everest expedition, Into Thin Air. At the same times on April 16, discuss with others Gail Honeyman’s funny and enchanting novel, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

April is National Poetry Month and the Library is partnering with the Loveland Poet Laureate to celebrate poetry through a wide range of activities for teens and adults including daily writing prompts, shared poems and other activities. Visit the Library’s Facebook page for more.)
