The philosophy at St. Luke's Preschool is to provide a loving atmosphere that nurtures the development of a positive sense of self in each child. The staff members help the children gain self-confidence in all areas of development - social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual - through a variety of exploring, discovering, and fun activities.
St. Luke's Preschool began using the Core Knowledge Preschool sequence in 1999 and all teachers have been trained in the curriculum. It is a developmentally appropriate, content-rich, carefully designed program with high expectations for all children. The curriculum meets and exceeds all Colorado and National preschool standards assuring that your child will leave our program well prepared for kindergarten. For more information on the curriculum, please visit their website at www.coreknowledge.org. We would also love to discuss the curriculum in more detail.
An important component of our program is related to character building. Through a Christian environment, positive role-modeling, and active teaching, the teachers will guide the children to learn what it means to be a "good friend", have good manners, how to care for living things, to persevere, and to be a good helper.
Our Staff
All of our classes are staffed by a team of experienced early childhood educators with an average tenure of more than ten years. Having more than one qualified teacher in the classroom has many advantages. Your child has the security of knowing that each of his/her teachers will be the adults in the classroom every day. It allows us to take a collaborative approach to observing, guiding, and assessing each child's progress. Teachers are interacting with the children continuously which allows us to make decisions about when and how to respond to meet both individual and group needs. The classroom environment is carefully arranged to encourage your child's natural curiosity and support his/her growth and development. Our teacher/child ratios are no more than 1:6 in our primary classes and no more than 1:8 in our pre-kindergarten classes.
All staff members regularly attend trainings to enhance their teaching skills and keep abreast of current research in the field of early childhood education. Each teacher in the classroom is background checked and certified in CPR and first-aid.
The Role of our Families
Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in our preschool program and are invited to visit the classroom whenever they wish. Each of our families is asked to help provide snacks on a rotating basis. We also encourage our families to accompany us on field trips. We provide multiple family activities each school year, including three music programs, a fall festival, and an end of the year family picnic. The preschool operates under the guidance of our Parent Board, and all parents are welcome to participate. Two times each year, the teachers will conduct conferences with parents.
"Primary Class = Tuesday/Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Pre-Kindergarten Class = Monday/Wednesday/Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Kindergarten Prep = Monday/Wednesday/Friday 12:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. A typical day at St. Luke's Preschool: Our day is a blend of structured and unstructured time, developmental and academic curriculum, teacher-directed and free choice activities. We believe that a balance of these differing philosophies provides the most well balanced preschool. "
Business Review
There is a gentleness and mellowness at St. Luke's Preschool that is difficult to find in this hectic world we live in. We were drawn to that the first time we visited almost 7 years ago. It has been a wonderful place for all 3 of our boys to learn the social skills as well as the learning tools needed to move on with their scholastic journey. But above all, it has been a place that we know and trust to love and care about our kids, to teach kindness, and to stimulate their little minds. We would highly recommend St. Luke's Preschool.

Our girls loved their experience at St. Luke's Preschool. The Core Knowledge curriculum and loving environment allowed each of them to grow and mature. They were well prepared, both socially and academically for kindergarten. Each teacher brings unique strengths to the classroom, together they provided a wonderful place for my kids to learn. We would recommend St. Luke's to anyone looking for a high-quality preschool.
