Storytime in the Dome: Over in the Forest Sep 6, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM Join us in the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater at FCMoD as we follow the tracks of ten woodland animals. Children will practice counting as they search for hidden forest animals. After seeing the pages turn on the big screen, join us in the Learning Labs for a very special craft! $5 per child / $4 for members- caregivers are free. Pre-registration is recommended. 

 Culture in the Courtyard: Auntie Stone’s Birthday Party Sep 8, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Ain’t no party like an Auntie Stone party! Celebrate Auntie Stone’s 217th birthday with us in her very own historic cabin. Learn the Virginia Reel dance, decorate your own brick (after all, Auntie Stone owned the first brick kiln in Fort Collins!), and, of course, eat some birthday cake! We’ll have our 2 other historic cabins and our 1905 schoolhouse open for exploration, too! Suggested donation: $3. This program is located in the Heritage Courtyard in Library Park at 200 Mathews Street.  

Little STEAMers: A is for Apple Sep 13, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM and 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM From making apple stamps, to sorting and stacking, to stacking and building, children will have an opportunity to practice their STEAM skills in this apple themed class! Through storytime, crafts, and hands-on activities, your preschooler will get to explore the building blocks of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math at Little STEAMers! Little STEAMers is designed especially for children 3-5 years old and their caregivers. Join us on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month, at both 10:15am & 2:15pm. $5 per child/$4 for members – caregivers are free. Pre-registration is recommended.  

 Museum Takeover: Tremendous Trees Sep 15, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Trees: they’re everywhere, but it’s easy to forget how important they are. Have you ever built a tree house? Read a book? Breathed oxygen? Trees are your forever besties! With interactive learning stations around the gallery, you can learn all about trees here in Colorado and why they matter… you won’t be-leaf how much fun it will be! Museum Takeover activities are included with admission.   

Meet the Animals Sep 15, Oct 20, Nov 17, Dec 15,  10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Are you ready for face-to-face encounters with FCMoD’s creatures, critters, and creepy-crawlies? Scamper into our Animal Encounters exhibit to dig deeper into the animal kingdom. It’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys! Meet the Animals is included with admission/your membership.   

Pop-Up Music Sep 22, Oct 27, Nov 24, Dec 22,  10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Cardboard speakers, basic ukulele chords, drum circles… we’ve got a lot of activities in our repertoire, so who knows what we’ll pull out next? Join us in the gallery for an activity that rocks as hard as you do (well, almost!).

Take Apart Day Oct 6, Nov 3, Dec 1,  10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Join us the 1st Saturday of each month for our traditional Take Apart Day and deconstruct everything from alarm clocks to printers! School Day Out: A Pirate’s Life for Me Sep 21, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Ahoy, mateys! School’s out, so sail over to FCMoD instead! Hop on board and learn how to wayfind using the stars, make your own compass, talk like a pirate, and work together as a crew. Who knows what adventures await? See you there — yo ho ho!  

Discovery Lab: Rocks and Minerals Sep 22, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Discovery Labs are hour long labs designed for families to explore a topic together. In this lab, your family will have the chance to learn the differences between rocks and minerals and conduct an experiment to distinguish the two! Be there “ore” be square!   

Little STEAMers: All About Amphibians Sep 27, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM and 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM Salamanders, frogs and toads oh, my! Join us as we learn all about amphibians through hands on craft and activities! You'll even get to meet FCMoD's resident amphibians up-close! Storytime in the Dome: The Prairie That Nature Built Oct 4, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM On the wide open prairie, animals abound! Join us in the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater at FCMoD as we read the book The Prairie That Nature Built. From tiny insects to majestic bison, this story will help children understand the interconnectedness of plants and animals as they explore one of the most endangered ecological systems in the world. After we see the pages turn on the big screen, join us in the Learning Labs to make your very own nature pendant to take home with you! $5 per child/$4 for members – caregivers are free Pre-registration is recommended.

Astronomy Day 2018 Oct 13, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM On Saturday, October 13th join us in celebrating Astronomy Day 2018! Explore the mysteries of the universe with fun astronomy activities from 1:00pm – 5:00pm at the museum! Learn about the constellations and other objects in the night sky in our OtterBox Digital Dome Theater at FCMoD, look safely at the sun through a solar telescope, and participate in hands-on activities and presentations. In the evening join the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society for some night-time viewing at Devil’s Backbone Open Space at 7:00pm. Presented in partnership with Northern Colorado Astronomical Society and Front Range Community College. Astronomy Day 2018 activities happening at the museum are included with admission/membership.  

Culture in the Courtyard: Legends and Lore Oct 13, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Can you separate fact from fiction? Hear about some local legends of Fort Collins’ past, and see if you can decipher the truth! We’ll have our 3 historic cabins and 1905 schoolhouse open for exploration (and for finding clues!). Suggested donation: $3. This program is located in the Heritage Courtyard in Library Park at 200 Mathews Street  

Storytime in the Dome: Pitter and Patter Oct 18, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM Join us in the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater at FCMoD as we journey through the water cycle. Tumble from the sky, careen off a leaf, and plunge into a stream as you travel to an underground cave! Follow along and meet all the animals and plants that depend on our precious water! After seeing the pages turn on the big screen, join us in the Learning Labs to make your very own rain cloud! $5 per child/$4 for members – caregivers are free. Pre-registration is recommended.  

Museum Takeover: Frankenfest Oct 20, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM What makes a monster? Find out as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein! Put on your mad scientist lab coat and delve deep into the world of Dr. Frankenstein, his monster, and the writer who created them both. Re-animate worms from the dead, explore electricity, and consider what the monsters we create tell us about ourselves. It might just send shivers down your spine! Museum Takeover is a monthly series where we deep dive into a particular subject with fun and educational activity stations in the exhibit gallery. Museum Takeover activities are included with admission/membership.  

Discovery Lab: Electricity October 20 and 27, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Discovery Labs are hour long labs designed for families to explore a topic together. Our video games use it, our phones use it, and our hearts use it. Electricity is at the center of our world! In this lab, your family will get the chance to safely explore how electricity works and the many ways we can use it. From Van de Graaf generators to plasma balls and circuits, it’ll be watts of fun! $5 per family of 6 or fewer people/$4 for member families. All ages are welcome, but recommended for ages 8+. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Space is limited to six families.  

Little STEAMers: Pumpkin Science! Oct 25, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM and 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM Could you turn a pumpkin into a boat or a volcano? Join us as we make pumpkins erupt and explore gooey guts! Beware: things might get messy! Through storytime, crafts, and hands-on activities, your preschooler will get to explore the building blocks of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math at Little STEAMers! Little STEAMers is designed especially for children 3-5 years old and their caregivers. This interactive story allows children to practice counting and identify animals while having fun on the farm. Discovery Lab: Nocturnal Animals Nov 17 and 24, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Discovery Labs are hour long labs designed for families to explore a topic together. Have you ever wondered why some animals are at their most active at night? In this Discovery Lab, your family will experience how nocturnal animals like the Black-Footed Ferret use their senses to explore the world around them- long after we humans have gone to bed. $5 per family of 6 or fewer/$4 member family All ages are welcome, but recommended for ages 8+. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Space is limited to six families.  

Storytime in the Dome: Baby on Board Dec 6, 10:15 AM - 11:00 AM Tucked in pouches, gripped in teeth, propped on backs, or underneath. Join us in the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater as we learn about some of the clever ways animals carry their babies. After seeing the pages turn on the big screen, join us in the Learning Labs for a very special craft! $5 per child / $4 for members- caregivers are free  Discovery Lab: Gingerbread Architecture Dec 15 and 22, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Discovery Labs are hour long labs designed for families to explore a topic together. Did you know that gingerbread and frosting are the best construction materials around? In this lab, your family will have the chance to build and decorate your very own architectural masterpiece… out of gingerbread! Using basic engineering and design principles, you will learn to build bigger and better (or should we say, bread-er) than ever! $5 per family of 6 or fewer/$4 member family All ages are welcome, but recommended for ages 8+. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Space is limited to six families.
