The celebration a part of Kids to Parks Day, an annual nationwide initiative organized by National Park Trust. Thousands of children across the country, including many here in Loveland, will participate on Saturday, May 16, joining a grassroots movement encouraging youth to explore America’s parks through play.
At a time when nearly one in three children nationwide are overweight or obese, communities are seeing increasing rates of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and elevated cholesterol levels among youth. Cities across the country, including Loveland, are encouraging families to adopt a simple message: active kids are healthy kids.
“By visiting parks and open spaces, we hope to broaden children’s appreciation for nature while highlighting the importance of recreating responsibly,” said Kerry Helke, Senior Recreation Coordinator for Loveland Parks & Recreation.
Loveland offers a wide variety of parks, open lands, and trails that provide opportunities for outdoor recreation, exploration, and healthy living for residents and visitors alike.

National Park Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving parks today and creating park stewards for tomorrow.
