The Lunch Lab’s got a brand-new look, with the food truck for kids set to roll this summer and provide no-cost meals to youth.
Service will begin May 27 in Loveland and May 30 in Fort Collins. The Lunch Lab visits parks, libraries and neighborhoods across Larimer County to distribute meals. All youth 18 and under are eligible to get lunch. There is no ID or registration required.
In addition to meals, the Lunch Lab and community partners will once again offer kids’ activities, including the chance to explore a mobile library, learn science experiments, games and more.
Communications Coordinator Kelsey Hammon said staff can’t wait to showcase the new food truck further.

Funding for the vehicle was raised through a 9News micro giving campaign that put out a calling to help replace the Food Bank’s older Lunch Lab vehicle which needed costly repairs. The new vehicle arrived late last summer, just in time for the final week of Lunch Lab meal distribution.
“This truck was made possible by our community coming together to support this need,” Kelsey said. “To get to show people how their contributions will provide fresh and nutritious meals to children all summer long is something we’ve been waiting for.”
While the vehicle may be new, its efforts to provide nutritious meals — loved by even the most selective of eaters — remains the same. The lunches are made from scratch in the Food Bank’s Nutritious Kitchen, then loaded on to the Lunch Lab’s two vehicles for distribution.
Last summer, April and her granddaughter, Novella, 8, were Lunch Lab regulars. April was visiting Colorado from her home in Kansas to help care for her granddaughter while Novella’s father worked.
“It absolutely helps to have that one meal a day,” April said.
For her part, Novella said one of her favorite meals was when the Lunch Lab served buffalo chicken wraps.
With another menu of scrumptious food prepared for this year, Kelsey encouraged families to check out the Lunch Lab.
“This is fun, no-cost way for youth to enjoy lunch and have some summer fun with their friends,” she said. “We hope you will join us!”
