My family loves a S'more, but the traditional version has always been a little off in the cracker to chocolate and marshmallow ratio for me. And the chocolate is never melted the way I like it. So, my family spent a good portion of our summer trying out different versions of S'mores to find our fave. To be honest, I can't really think of a better excuse to whip up a sweet treat!
Although we tried several versions, two varieties stood out as top notch. Check them out!
THE WINNER | S'mores Mini Pies
What you need:
- Chocolate Bar (we used Hershey's milk chocolate)
- Graham Cracker Mini Pie Crusts (we used Keebler)
- Jumbo Marshmallows (we used Jet Puffed)
What you do:
- Line the inside of the pie crusts with chocolate... I prefer 6 squares myself.
- Top with 3 marshmallows.
- Place on a cookie sheet lined with foil.
- Bake at 300 degrees for approximately 5 minutes. Be sure to check it after 3, as the time needed will depend on your oven.
- When the marshmallows are puffed up and lightly browned, remove from the oven.
- Let cool for a bit as the marshmallow and chocolate will be hot.
- I like to eat this treat with a fork, but my kids love to pick it right up out of the foil tin, and eat it by hand.
Why we love this version:
Not only was the S'mores "pie" the perfect ratio of chocolate and marshmallow to graham cracker, it can be enjoyed without the mess!
Make it gluten free:
Save one of those little mini pie tins (washed, of course) and line it with crushed gluten free graham crackers (we used Schorr's) mixed with a little melted butter. You can also use a ramakan.
THE RUNNER UP | S'mores Dip
What you need:
- Chocolate Bar (we used Hershey's milk chocolate)
- Graham Crackers or Graham Cracker sticks (we used Keebler)
- Jumbo Marshmallows (we used Jet Puff)
What you do:
- Line the inside of a pie plate with chocolate... a few bars should do the trick.
- Cover the top with marshmallows.
- Use the graham crackers or sticks to dip into the chocolate and marshmallows.
Why we love this version:
This one is great because everyone can enjoy their S'mores exactly how they like them... like yours heavy on the marshmallow or light on the chocolate (yeah, that's not me!)? Easy! Dip on your own terms!
Make it gluten free:
This dip is gluten free, using the brands mentioned above! To prevent cross contamination, scoop out some of the dip into a smaller bowl before dipping any crackers into it. That way, your GF friends and family members can use gluten free grahams to dip into their separated portion.
