Literacy Together Hosts Parent Child Camps Building Reading Foundation

By Melissa Shrader Editor Publisher Loveland Macaroni KID March 11, 2024

Do you have a soon to be kindergartener or a 1st grader?

Did you know that learning to manipulate sounds is critical for learning to read?

Literacy Together is offering 2 parent-child camps this summer for parents of kindergarteners and 1st graders.

Early literacy is key to building a strong foundation for reading now and throughout life.

Now is the time. You will learn different multisensory activities to implement which will give your child the strong foundation they need to read.

You’ll learn how to break down words into sounds, learn what they are, put them back together giving you the basic skills for using the alphabet. You’ll learn about phonemes (different sounds in words). You will learn how the letters on the page match the words we say out loud.

The first day of camp is for parents only. We will dive into the essential skills that spark a love for reading. Get ready to try out some fun phonemic awareness activities with your kiddos and leave with multiple ideas you can use right away.

The second day of camp is for parents and their registered children. You'll implement the activities from session one together with your child in a supervised environment. This is your opportunity to ask questions, practice together, and take home the new ideas and materials to practice throughout the summer and during the school year.
