5 Fun Ways Parents Can Relax With Their Kids

By Melissa Shrader Editor/Publisher Loveland CO April 25, 2022

Let's face it.

There are times we need a quiet moment and most likely

we aren't going to get a chance to break away from the kids.

Getting a mental break can happen to a degree, at least if you have the kids participate in some activities with you. We have a few fun suggestions that may fit the bill.

Coloring together

Coloring pages are great! They are a wonderful way for both Parents and kids to relax and focus enough to get a mental break and some quality time together too.

Coloring can help take the edge off a wild day. It's been proven to be one of the most stress reliving activity you can find. It's a similar concept to meditation. While coloring you are taking the attention out of the "thinking mind" and into a different mental pattern. Similar to breathing in meditation. Printable Free Coloring pages has some great pages for the whole family.

Games

There are so many games that are easy and fun for all ages. This also takes your mind off of the daily rigors and into a "fun" zone. Your mind gets to refocus on something less stressful and the fun with your kids. And they get the same. Relaxed mind and fun with the parents.

Explore A Subject

This isn't a school subject, It's something specifically for fun. Find a subject or interest you or your child want to learn more about. Then sit down and research it. Learn something fun and new together. Maybe you both are interested in how Books are made. Look it up and watch a video on it. Maybe you both are interested in Spain. Find out about it.

Meditate

You are never too old or too young to begin meditation. It's an activity that can be done together and separately at the same time. It's a way for both of you to have a break from each other while still being together. There are videos for all ages on Youtube.

Gardening

It's always a wonderful way to get out into the sun, get the kids engaged, get some peace. While pulling weeds and such may not be as relaxing to some as planting seeds or nurturing plants, it's a great way to get the kids focused on something, get them quiet, and get a little quiet time in.

These are great ways to take a small break together. A break from the normal routine is a great way to, well, take a break. Sometimes something just as simple as changing the routine can help with tensions and boredom.
