Did you know that March is the snowiest month in Colorado?
It's true! Based on 140 years of records, our state averages 11.4 inches of snow during March, mainly because of the clash of high and low temperatures. How many times have you worn a t-shirt one day and a winter coat the next? Probably a lot.
So, it seems appropriate that the Colorado Department of Transportation is rolling out its inaugural Name that Plow Contest in March! The Colorado Department of Transportation, along with Governor Jared Polis, is asking Colorado elementary school students to name the 20 brand new CDOT snowplows joining the current fleet of plows in 2021.
Who can enter?
All Colorado elementary school students, kindergarten through fifth grade can submit their creative ideas. Submissions are due by Friday, March 26 2021.
What can they win?
CDOT and Governor Polis will choose 20 winners, and they will be announced in May. Winners will have the opportunity to take a photo with "their" snowplow.
Rules
- The name must be 15 characters or less, and one to two words, so it will fit on the sticker (Example: Snowball or Snow Patrol)
- The snowplow name can't include your name
- No profanity or inappropriate language
- Parent/guardian permission is required to submit an idea
Governor Polis and CDOT had this to say to Colorado kids:
