For many of us we are either an oldie to Kombucha or a newbie, whether you become an aficionado or never swallow another mouthful, once you try Kombucha that decision is made in seconds, in other words, you either like it or you don’t.

Not all kombuchas are the same, some have more gas, more flavor, less vinegary, and so on, but one thing that most kombuchas have in common is their healing properties and they are a worthy addition to anyone’s health arsenal.

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink made from green or black tea (or both), sugar, yeast, and bacteria, and is believed to have originated in China about 2,000 years ago. It is made by adding a colony of live bacteria known as SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast), to sweetened tea and leaving it to ferment for a few weeks until it turns into a slightly sweet, slightly tart beverage that is separated from the SCOBY and bottled.

Some health benefits of kombucha are similar to yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut, but did you know there are specific bioactive compounds that are unique to Kombucha? Much of these accolades are likely due to the polyphenols found in the tea. Polyphenols act as strong antioxidants in the body and decrease inflammation, which can be the root cause of some diseases.

The fermentation increases the polyphenols. Kombucha produces vitamin B and organic acids that have shown to be antimicrobial and also help fight bacterial growth. Kombucha also contains low-level alcohol, usually ranging from 0.5% upwards to 3. The kombucha on our website has less than 0.5% alcohol making it a non-alcoholic beverage.

This week we welcome a new Kombucha vendor. BOOCHA Products, their kombucha comes in a few flavors and different sized bottles. One is a cantaloupe Farm to Table kombucha that comes in a wine bottle size, the other is a plain unadulterated kombucha that goes through two fermentation processes, quickly aged and bottled immediately. It has less of a vinegar flavor, low sugar content, with no added carbonization and no extra juices, and comes in a 12 oz., bottle.

So for all you Boocha lovers out there, take a look at Boocha Products and grab yourself a bottle of nature's natural healing drinks and take care of your body.

Stay healthy this new year, Live, Love, and Shop Local for all your Bear Necessities, and while you are at it visit our website for more healthy foods and fun products while you support our local vendors.
