Rats and beetles and termites, oh my!
Museum Critters and Contraptions debuts Saturday, Nov. 16,
at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures.
Anna Lee, a graduate of Colorado State University,
is curating the display.
“This exhibit is a behind-the-scenes look at the most common museum infestations and the tools used to
combat such a pestilence,” said Lee. “In an effort to protect our shared histories, I want to highlight the
risks of ineffectively managing a museum and its archives. This is pest control, museum style.”
Lee has focused on five international museums and their most prevalent culprits: cloth moths at the
Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.; rats in the Louvre in Paris, France; flies in the State Hermitage
Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia; termites at the Paulista Museum in São Paulo, Brazil; and carpet
beetles at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul, South Korea.
The 26-year-old Lee received her Bachelor of Fine Art from CSU as well as a Master’s degree in Liberal
Arts. Her primary media are printmaking and drawing. In addition to volunteering at the Global Village
Museum, Lee teaches workshops at the Museum of Art in Fort Collins.
The Global Village Museum is located at 200 West Mountain Avenue. Regular Museum hours are 11
