You Can Nominate Your Favorite Librarian to Win $5,000!

August 26, 2018

Nominate your librarian for the 2018 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award. Ten winners will receive $5,000! Nominations are open through midnight CDT on October 1, 2018.

Librarians touch the lives of the people they serve every day. This award encourages library users like you to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional public, school, college, community college, or university librarians.

The I Love My Librarian Award is unique. Previous winners have referred to it as the "People’s Choice Award" of the library world because people who use libraries nominate librarians for the differences they are making in their schools, campuses, and communities. In 2017, more than 1,100 library lovers submitted detailed stories regarding how their librarian had an impact on their communities and lives.

Up to ten librarians are selected each year. Each librarian receives a $5,000 cash award, a plaque, and a travel stipend to attend the awards ceremony and reception in New York City, hosted by Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Each nominee must be a librarian with a master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association in library and information studies or a master's degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Nominees must be currently working in the United States in a public library, a library at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or at an accredited K-12 school.
